12/3/2023 0 Comments Terra nova book![]() ![]() ![]() I much prefer minimal elements of romance in my fantasy and this book had the perfect ratio for my enjoyment. You can tell how quickly her experiences shape her. Our protagonist was likeable, and her development throughout the book was fun to follow. She was so interesting and had a lot of depth, she’s a character you can’t help but root for and want to know more about. Bambi was one of my favourite characters and one whose past I’d like to delve even more into. For some reason, Cynthia really irritated me and I wish I understood her better. The characters I didn’t get on with were stereotypical high school boys and Cynthia. The vampire characters were by far my favourite and the most interesting, I enjoyed looking into their way of living and their slight character quirks. That’s not to say they were badly written, just that some of their personalities were either obnoxious or irritating. I had a love/hate relationships with the characters in this book, some I loved and some I just didn’t enjoy at all. I also would’ve preferred if we were with Evangeline the entire time as I enjoyed her character. I enjoyed the multiple points of view but found myself wanting it to be clearer who we were with, as I sometimes got confused. It was easy to read and understand, it was well-formatted, and flowed easily. It wasn’t overly metaphorical or lyrical, but having said that it was written in a similar style to most other YA fantasy books. I’m really interested to see where the plot goes as we span over more books in the series! While the setting up on the book (first ~100 pages or so) was quite slow, when the fantasy elements were introduced it picked up in pace massively and I started to get really invested. It kept me hooked and my interest never waned. Right from the beginning, there is an essence of mystery that makes you want to keep reading and uncover what is going on. I knew from the synopsis of this book I was going to enjoy the storyline, and I was completely right. ![]() *Thank you to the author for gifting me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!* Unbeknownst to any of them is the mysterious outcast Bambi, whose secrecy disguises her power in making a devastating choice: save one world at the risk of destroying the other. Meanwhile, Evangeline’s brother and friends back on Earth try to figure out what happened to her, and how the government is involved, and how to bring her home. In order to survive, she must keep her mind open and accept the changes her body is undergoing soon enough, those who she initially thinks are murderers become her trainers, whose help she must enlist if she ever hopes to return home-and soon enough, a romantic bond begins to bloom. The place Evangeline now finds herself in is called Terra Nova, a world wherein vampires rule supreme, with no traces of humanity left to speak of.
